The sixth vaccine authorised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for its emergency listing, receiving WHO validation for safety, efficacy and quality.
Produced by the Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China National Biotec Group (CNBG), Sinopharm is an inactivated vaccine called SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine.
WL&H Group has received approval under the SAR to provide Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines in Singapore.

How does Sinopharm work?
When an individual receives the vaccine, their body’s immune system identifies the inactivated virus as foreign and makes antibodies against it. Because the coronaviruses in the vaccine are dead, they can be injected into the arm without causing Covid-19. If the vaccinated person subsequently comes into contact with SARS-CoV-2, their immune system launches an immune response against it.
The Sinopharm vaccine has been trialed* to show an effectiveness of 79% against symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection 14 or more days after the second dose.

Who should get the Vaccine, who shouldn’t?
*Known ingredients:
                                  Inactivated virus, Disodium hydrogen phosphate-2, sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, aluminium hydroxide adjuvant and water.
Sinopharm Vaccine is recommended for individuals aged 18 years and older who have no history of anaphylaxis to any component of the vaccine*.
If your body temperature is above 38.5°C at the time of vaccination, individual should postpone vaccination until they no longer have a fever.

What are the possible side effects?

Like all vaccines, the Sinopharm vaccine can cause side effects. Most side effects are mild or moderate and usually get better within a few days.

The table below lists some common side effects that have been reported with this vaccine and how to manage them.

Pain, redness, swelling at the injection site

Those with fever are advised to self-isolate at home until the fever subsides.

Paracetamol 1 to 2 tablets for the other side effects every 6 hours as needed

Fever, chills

Headache, muscle pain, joint pain

Tiredness

Rest

Lymph node swelling at neck or arms

Usually gets better by itself in a week or so
